About Us

Find out more about who we are and what we doTheatre People was established as a community interest company (CIC) in the summer of 2009. Based in Sunderland in the North East of England, we are primarily a touring theatre company.

We perform in theatres and schools across the region, helping to enrich the local community and educate along the way. We also provide set design services and drama tuition, plus a lot more.

The company was formed by local actor and writer Jay Mullen, with help and support from SES (Social Enterprise Sunderland). One of our main aims is to offer local professional actors the opportunity to use their talents in their home town. We feel that the best talent the region has to offer shouldn't be forced to leave for Manchester or London.

We are an enthusiastic and ambitious young company, with big plans for the future. We aim to perform at least four plays a year touring Northern theatres, as well as putting on private performances for schools, colleges and universities. We end each year with a pantomime production for primary schools.

Our ten year plan is to raise enough money from productions and independent funders to build a 500-seat community theatre in the heart of Sunderland!
